George Gaylord

September 13, 1927 — June 22, 2017

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, George Andrew Gaylord, 89, of Kellogg, Idaho, passed away June 22, 2017 at the Shoshone Medical Center of Kellogg, after a five year battle with cancer.  He was born September 13, 1927 in Rose Lake, Idaho; George was the son of Kenneth and Sylvia (Deal) Gaylord.

George has lived in North Idaho all of his life.  He attended and graduated from the Rose Lake High School.  George then attended the University of Idaho.  He also served in the Merchant Marines shortly after WW II.

George married Barbara Walker on August 20, 1948 in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho; this August they would have celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary.

George had first worked in the logging industry, as well as, the Bunker Hill Mining Company.  He then went to work for his cousin, Frank Prendergast, with the Prendergast Amusement Company, as a coin machine mechanic for thirty plus years.  George retired in 1989.

George was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Kellogg Elks #1841 and Ducks Unlimited.

George loved and enjoyed fishing, fly-fishing, hunting for elk in earlier years and duck and goose hunting in later years; he also enjoyed blueback fishing and working in his yard.  But most of all he so loved and enjoyed his family and hunting and fishing with his buddies.

George is survived by his beloved wife Barbara Gaylord; four children Allen and Sue Gaylord of Lewiston, Idaho, Mike and Pat Gaylord of Kellogg, Walt and Joyce Gaylord of Salem, Kentucky, and Lee and Lori Gaylord of Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho; nine grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.  George was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Kenny and Frank Gaylord.

A Celebration of George’s Life will be held on Sunday, July 2, 2017 at 2:00 P.M., at the Broken Wheel Restaurant of Kellogg; everyone is welcome and please bring your special memories and stories of George.

The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, to please make memorials to the Idaho Ducks Unlimited.
