Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great grandfather and brother, William “Bud” E. Hayes, 86, of Mullan, Idaho, passed away September 29, 2013 at the family home of Mullan. He was born September 15, 1927 at Galena, Kansas; Bud was the son of William Harvey and Alma (Gilbert) Hayes.
Bud moved to the Silver Valley in 1947 from Kansas. He first married Dolores Darrow on September 15, 1948; Dolores passed away in February of 1981. Bud then married Marilyn Dooling on December 5, 1981 at Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho.
Bud had worked at the Lucky Friday Mine for thirty-seven years; he had served as a hoistman.
Bud was very involved in his community- he had served as president of the Steelworkers Union Local #5114, he was a member of the Mullan Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the Wallace Elks Lodge #331, a member of the Masonic Lodge and had served for many years on the East Shoshone Water Board. Bud was very supportive of our community’s youth, serving in scouting and in Mullan Youth Organizations.
Bud loved and enjoyed spending time with his family, picking and eating huckleberries and he had an unbelievable passion for hunting elk. Bud will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Bud is survived by his wife Marilyn Hayes of the family home of Mullan; two sons Ron Hayes and Sue of Mullan, Gale (Jo Ann) Hayes of Mullan; three step-sons Tom (Eva) Wofford of Lewiston, Idaho, Tim (Diane) Wofford of Pennsylvania and Todd (Norma) Wofford of Montana; Bud’s grandchildren Billie (Tracy) Wall, Barbie (Waylon) Hayes both of Polson, Montana, Jason Hayes of Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho, Kelli (Joe) Valerio of Hauser Lake, Idaho, Jeremy Hayes of Pinehurst, Joe (Tricia) Hayes of Priest River, Idaho. Step-Grandchildren Chris, Kale and Shawn; Bud’s great-grandchildren Kaelen, Brett, Kylie, Bailey, Austin, Danielle, Leora, Abby, Brandon, Makala and Joey. His great-great grandchildren Roper, Brylie and Brinlee; one brother Bernerd “Pick” Hayes of Kansas City, Kansas and one sister Mildred (Elbert) Hart of Oklahoma. Bud was preceded in death by his first wife Dolores Hayes, one son William L. Hayes, and his brothers Delno, Gene, Pat and Warren “Bear Tracks” Hayes.
Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at 12:00 Noon at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Mullan. A gathering of family and friends will be held in the basement of the church following services; this will be potluck and everyone is welcome.
