WEBSTER MILLS COTTER “WEB”

Webster Mills Cotter was born September 29, 1947 in Oakland, CA. He passed away from lung disease on February 13, 2017 at Shoshone Medical Center, Kellogg, ID.

He was raised in Osceola, Nebraska where he wanted to grow up to be either a horse or an Indian. He graduated from Osceola High School in 1966. During his teen years he worked detasseling corn, helping farmers with haying, and setting pins at the local bowling alley. His free time was spent on the Platte River and listening to Bob Dylan.

Web was in the USMC from 1966 – 1970. Two years serving as an Embassy Marine Security Guard in La Paz, Bolivia and Asuncion, Paraguay. After returning home to Nebraska, Web and Mary Johnson were married on August 29, 1970. He attended the University of Nebraska until they moved to California. He was proud to have volunteered with the George McGovern campaign in the Bay Area.

Moving to Idaho in 1973, Web and Mary found paradise, and a $50 rental house on Dewey Street in Mullan, ID. He was employed at the Bunker Hill Zinc Plant and the Galena Mine in Wallace, ID.

Web was so overjoyed with the births of his three children, Owen Webster 1976, Ian Mills 1979 and Bryn Elizabeth 1989. The family moved to Osburn, ID in 1992. He served on the Wallace School District Board, volunteered at the Morehouse Baseball Field in Osburn, and had joined the Mullan Volunteer Fire Dept.

Survivors are his wife Mary, sons Owen (Sunny) Cotter and Ian (Natalia) Cotter, daughter Bryn (Matt) Drews. Grandchildren Margot, Atticus, Sawyer, Amber, Cruz and Cassidy. Brother Mike (Barb) Cotter, brothers-in-law Steven Johnson, Mardell (Jeannine) Johnson and several nieces and nephews.

Web was preceded in death by his mother Marian Mills Cotter, sister Paula Cotter Johnson, grandparents Webster and Irma Mills and his mother-in-law Beulah Johnson.

Web instilled his love and respect for nature in his children and grandchildren. Remember him for his love of the Purple Cliffs on the Clark Fork River, fishing the Clearwater, his quest for that next great sci-fi book, and his sense of humor – you either got it, or you didn’t.

A potluck style gathering of family and friends will be held at the Wallace Elks on Friday, February 17th, 2017. 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
