Viola Meyer

Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt, Viola Mae Meyer, of Kellogg, Idaho, passed away surrounded by her loving family at the home of her granddaughter (Kelly and Robert Sturtevant) of Spokane, Washington, on October 6, 2015. She was born October 14, 1915 in Wardner, Idaho; Viola was the daughter of Benjamin and Adelaide “Ethel” (Williams) Newton.

Viola attended and graduated from the Kellogg High School. She married Stanley A. Temby on November 23, 1935 in Kellogg; Stanley passed away October 22, 1975. Viola then married Ed Meyer on June 7, 1979 in Kellogg; Ed passed away March 22, 1993.

Viola was a homemaker. She was a member of the Mountain View Congregational Church of Kellogg and a member of several groups of the church; she also served as the Sunday school superintendent and was a Sunday school teacher; she had also sung in the church choir for over fifty-four years. Viola was a member of the Esther Rebekah Lodge #19, a member of a Ladies Bowling League and a member of the Order Of Eastern Star. She loved and enjoyed her family, crocheting and knitting doilies, dish cloths, slippers and she enjoyed gardening. Viola loved watching Jeopardy, Price Is Right, Wheel of Fortune and Lawrence Welk; she also enjoyed collecting teddy bears, watching butterflies, birds and kitty cats.

Viola is survived by one son Gary (Susan) Temby of Kellogg, Idaho; one daughter Geraldine “Geri” (Al) Haun of Ridgecrest, California; her daughter-in-law Jean Meyer of Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho; five grandchildren Tom (Faith) Haun, Lori (John) Hudson, Pam (Mike) Abdollahzadeh, Kelly (Robert) Sturtevant and Cathy (Chori) Seraiah; twelve great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews including Sharon Schaffer; two step-grandchildren Dan (Chris) Meyer and Christine (Kevin) Korbel and four step great-grandchildren. Viola was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, two sisters and her two husbands.

A Celebration of Viola’s Life will be held on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at 1:00 P.M. at the Mountain View Congregational Church of Kellogg with Rev. Art Fleming officiating. Interment will be held at the Greenwood Cemetery of Kellogg. A reception/luncheon will be held at the Church following services. Pink was Viola’s favorite color, please wear pink in her honor.

The family wishes to express special thanks to Viola’s caregivers Sally Aylesworth, Maci McLain, Norene Jones, Jennilee Douglas and Whitney Sturtevant.
