Sidney “Jack” Caddy, 88
Sidney “Jack” Caddy, 88, lifelong resident of Kellogg, passed away on May 28, 2016, at Mountain Valley Care & Rehabilitation of Kellogg. Jack was a friend to everyone and “never knew a stranger”. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and son. Jack was born in Kellogg to Sid and Maude Caddy on November 1, 1927. He attended and graduated from Kellogg High School, where he excelled in all sports, holding a pole vault record for many years. Jack enlisted in the United States Army during the Korean War and was awarded the Korea Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal.
After returning to Kellogg, Jack worked in various occupations including running a Union Oil 76 Service Station for many years, as Safety Supervisor for the Bunker Hill Mining Company and managing “Jack’s Hook Shop” for the Ross family. The “Hook Shop” became the gathering place for many locals for morning coffee and solving the world’s problems. Upon retirement, Jack and his wife, Floydean, spent many evenings sitting in front of their house on McKinley Avenue visiting and waving to people passing by. Their home was always open to friends and family.
Jack was very active in civic affairs in Kellogg, serving as the Police Commissioner on the Kellogg City Council and was a member of the Kellogg Jaycees. He and Floydean worked on many “All Class Reunions” for the Kellogg High School.
Jack is survived by his son Rick Caddy of Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho; his step-daughter Julie (Tim) Olson of Eagle, Idaho; his grandchildren Chelsey, Lindsay, Erika, Mark, Heather, Ryan, and Leslie. Jack also had ten Great-Grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Floydean, his parents, his first wife Ruby and his brother Dave.
The Caddy family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Mountain Valley Care for their loving care and compassion for Jack. A thanks also to special friends Joan Ross and Roger Fulton for their life-long friendship.
Memorial Services for Jack will be held on Tuesday, June 7, 2016, at 10:00 A.M. at the American Lutheran Church of Kellogg with Pastor Ken Bartle officiating. A reception and a gathering of family and friends will be held in the Church Fellowship Hall following services.
