Shirley Ravsten

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, Shirley Ann Ravsten, 75, of Kellogg, Idaho, passed away December 14, 2015 at Shoshone Medical Center in Kellogg. She was born on December 22, 1939 in Spokane, Washington; Shirley was the daughter of Walter and Gay (McCarty) Gilliland.

Shirley spent much of her childhood in Spokane Valley, Washington, her family moved to Kellogg when she was in 8th grade. Shirley graduated from Kellogg High School. She was united in marriage to Layne Ravsten in Liberty Lake, Washington on April 7, 1962. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Cardston Alberta Temple in September, 1975.

Shirley worked as the office manager at the Shoshone News Press for many years. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints of which she was a very active participant; she loved teaching the little children. Shirley was also a member of the Red Hat Society. Shirley loved and enjoyed her family. She was a fan of the Seattle Mariners, Seahawks and Gonzaga basketball.

Shirley is survived by her beloved husband of over 53 years, Layne of the family home in Kellogg; one son, Guy (Carol) Ravsten of Hayden, Idaho; two daughters, Stacey (Randy) Price of Kennewick, Washington and Jayne Ravsten of Nampa; one brother, Scott Gilliland of Kellogg; two sisters, Margaret (Dwight) Woodall of Lodi, California and Jean (James) Floyd of Las Vegas, Nevada; eight grandchildren Shane Price, Bret Ravsten, Taylor Price, Nicole Buttram, Cody Barton, Sarah Ravsten, Kellen Ravsten, and Seth Price; three great-grandchildren Delaney, Beau and Liam; and her very special friend, Jackie Sevy. She is preceded in death by her parents and her son Reid.

A Funeral Service honoring Shirley’s life will be held on Friday, December 18, 2015, 11:00A.M. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Pinehurst, viewing will be 30 minutes prior to the start of the service. A reception will be held in the church fellowship hall following services.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Shirley’s honor can be made to Shoshone Cancer Resource Center, 204 Oregon Street, Kellogg, Idaho 83837.
