Robert “Bob” Eugene Zingler was a pacific northwest native -- born and raised in Mullan, Idaho on November 13, 1966. He passed peacefully on June 8, 2015 in Hayden, Idaho after a ten month battle with gastric cancer. However you will not hear anyone say he lost this battle. True to his stubborn nature, he fought to the very end, and left on his own terms.
At the age of sixteen, Bob struck out on his own, impatient to become a man and make his way in life. He was never afraid to venture out and explore new opportunities, having wandered about Idaho, Washington, and Oregon. It was at the age of nineteen that he made a cross country trek all the way to Florida to be a commercial fisherman. Little did he know, he was about to catch more then just swordfish that year. Life not only brought him his future wife, but two little girls that he would take in as his own. He took them under his wing and brought them to their new home in Mullan, Idaho in 1990.
Armed with an excellent grasp of mathematics and familiarity with navigating blueprints, his ambition led him to start a business in construction. He built a lot of homes in the span of twenty-three years all over the northwest, leaving behind a tangible legacy for future generations, including several projects here in his hometown. He touched many lives with his generosity; always volunteering his time and skills to anyone that asked. Even when he became ill, he was still helping others -- hiding his pain and diagnosis all the while. He was a strong, hard-working man, and as anyone will tell you, he was also as stubborn as they come. If you’ve known him, chances are, you’ve been on the outs with one another at some point, but the truth of the matter is.. He always wanted you to come back.
Although he found his true happiness while working out on a commercial fishing boat, his other interest included: hunting, dirt-biking, model trains and shooting pool. Later in life, he would find what mattered most was his family and the enjoyment he found helping his grandchildren get into mischief.
Bob leaves behind his loving and dedicated wife of 29 years, Darcy Zingler; his daughters, Jayme Stinehart, Tiahna & Derek Johnson; his foster daughter, Jani Hilliard; his father and step-mother, James and Sue Zingler; his siblings: Linda Frazier, Dan & Peggy Zingler, Mary Zingler, Dave Zingler, Rachel & Richard Knapp, and Jim; his nieces & nephews: Mary Jane & Timmy Frazier, Joshua, Justin, & Mathew Zingler, Brandon, Katie, and Eric Knapp; his grandchildren: Bryce Stepro, Brittaney, Victoria, & Logan Millward; and many other close friends and relatives. He is preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn Boyer-Zingler.
A celebration of life will be held at Gene Day Park in Osburn, Idaho on Saturday, June 13th, at 1:30pm. It will be potluck and we ask that you jot down a memory or two of him for the memory tree. In lieu of flowers donations in his name can be made to the Hospice House of Hummingbird Fields 2290 W. Prairie Ave Coeur d’Alene, Idaho 83815.
