Michael Wayne Sable, 68, passed away at Kootenai Health on March 9, 2021. He had been dealing with health issues for quite some time. Michael was born May 2, 1952 in Newcastle, Wyoming. He grew up in Yakima, Washington and attended Yakima Community College. He was on the dean’s list every semester while attending there. He also attended Gonzaga University in 1995-96. While there, he was president of Encore House. He really enjoyed interacting with the non-traditional students. Mike was probably best known for his talented cooking skills. He was so proud when he opened Michael’s Fine Dining in Smelterville. He also cooked at various other places throughout the Silver Valley. Michael is survived by two sisters, Gloria Brooks (Dan) and Sherry Krulitz (Art), and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne Sable & Pauline Portwood Chilcott, his grandparents Tony and Fern Sable, and Harley and Frances Portwood. A family memorial service will be held over Memorial Day Weekend. Special thanks to Debbie Mikesell at Shoshone Funeral Services.
