Beloved husband, brother, father, uncle and friend, Mervin Arnold “Kal“ Kaltvedt of Kuwait and Kellogg, Idaho, passed away August 14, 2015 in Fahaheel, Kuwait. Kal was born March 19, 1965 in San Diego, California. He was the son of Phil “Pops” and Sharon (Chinn Woo) Mendy.

Kal grew up in the Silver Valley and graduated from Kellogg High School in 1984.

Kal was a veteran of the U.S. Navy with 14 years of service. He had been living in Kuwait since 1998 and worked as a Logistics Manager for DynCorp International.

Kal was of the Catholic faith and attended mass regularly.

He married Josephine “Jo” Alasco on January 11, 2000 in her home country of the Phillipines.

Kal was a big sports fan. He loved football, baseball and playing fantasy football. He was a fan of LSU and the Texas Rangers, Kal also followed the Kellogg Wildcats.

Kal is survived by his wife of over 15 years, Jo Kaltvedt; his daughters Ashley Kaltvedt of Moorhead, Minnesota and Hannah Kaltvedt of Pearl River, Louisiana; sisters Korena (Gregg) Lannen of Kellogg, Idaho, Rosie LaMere of Michigan, brother Chris Kaltvedt and sisters Ronda and Mona Kaltvedt, all of Huntington Beach, California; nieces and nephews Nathan (Nikki) Cochran, Jared (Marcee) Cochran, Katelyn Cochran, Dylan Kaltvedt, Kailamai and Tiffany Hansen, and Serenity and Sylus Stroud. He is also survived by his best friend Danny Lunsford and many other family members and close friends. Kal is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Mai Hansen.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2015 11am at St. Rita‘s Catholic Church in Kellogg. The mass will be followed by a reception and celebration of Kal‘s life at 2pm at the Longshot Saloon.
