Mary “Bernice“ Zittel, 95
Mary “Bernice“ Zittel, 95, of Kingston, Idaho, passed away June 19, 2016 at Shoshone Medical Center, Kellogg, Idaho. She was born February 19, 1921 in Dupuyer, Montana; Bernice was the daughter of John and Mary (Fellers) Salois.
Bernice moved to the Silver Valley from Deer Lodge, Montana in 1946.
On April 11, 1949, Bernice was united in marriage to Leon Zittel in Kellogg, Idaho; Leon passed away in 1983.
Bernice worked as a waitress in both Montana and in the Silver Valley. She worked at B&M Café of Kellogg and Johnson’s Café of Smelterville. In 1962 She went to work for Stein’s Grocery Store as a checker until her retirement in 1987.
Bernice was a member of the Grandmothers Club and won grandmother of the year honors in 1990. She was also a member of the Kellogg Lady Elks and served as their President. She was on the Lady Elks Drill Team and was also a member of the Osburn V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary and Wallace Lady Eagles.
Bernice enjoyed crocheting, cooking and spending time with her family.
Bernice is survived by two children Ross (Bobbi) Lunceford of Ukiah, California and Cathy (Dennis) Fretheim of Smelterville, Idaho; one sister Willa Woods of Deer Lodge, Montana; Bernice is also survived by eleven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Leon, daughter Myrna Roman, grandson Jason, ten brothers and two sisters.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday June 25, 2016 at 11:00a.m. at the Shoshone Memorial Gardens of Pinehurst, Idaho with Rev. Ken Bartle officiating. Following services please join the family at the Pine Creek Tavern for reception.
