Marion “Matt” Matthew Jones, 97

Marion “Matt” Matthew Jones, 97, of Shoreline, Washington, passed away January 5, 2018 at Pacifica of Pinehurst, Idaho.  He was born June 8, 1920 in Lake Bird, Florida; Matt was the son of John and Nancy Jones.

Matt had proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WW II.  In 2014, he traveled on the Veterans Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. to see the WW II Memorial, as well as, other veteran memorial sites.  Matt was also selected to be interviewed for the Veterans History Project by the Library of Congress.

Matt married Naomi Hinterberger on May 18, 1946 in Seattle, Washington; Naomi passed away on December 14, 2009.

Matt had lived in the Seattle, Shoreline, Washington area for most of his life.  He moved to the Silver Valley in November of 2016, to be near his son and daughter-in-law Tim and Nancy Jones.

Matt was a carpenter by trade and had taught carpentry at the Seattle Community College, until his retirement.

Matt was a true fisherman at heart and had fished the Puget Sound for almost seventy years; he fished well into his nineties.  He also loved and enjoyed golfing, bowling, hiking and dancing with his beloved wife Naomi.

Matt is survived by his two sons Tim and Nancy Jones of Cataldo, Idaho, Gary and Maureen Jones of Shoreline, Washington; his son-in-law John Gehrki of Anacortes, Washington; three grandsons Elliot Duda, Paul and Matthew Dionne; one great-grandson Orion Dionne.  Matt was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter Nancy Gehrki and his wife Naomi.

A Celebration of Matt’s Life for his community of family, friends and neighbors, will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2018 from 2:00 P.M. - 5:00 P.M. at the Edmonds Senior Center, 220 Railroad Ave. of Edmonds, Washington.  Private family inurnment graveside services will be held at the Tahoma National Cemetery of Kent, Washington.

The family suggests that memorials may be made to the Inland Northwest Honor Flight, 608 W. 2nd, Ste. 309, Spokane, Washington 99201-4430.
