Loran Bernard McPeak, 82, of Pinehurst, Idaho, passed away December 24, 2015 at home in Pinehurst. He was born on February 18, 1933 in Missoula, Montana; Loran was the son of Robert Henry and Vera Florence (Fererro) McPeak.
Loran graduated from Kingston High School in Kingston, Idaho in 1951. He served in the U.S Army during the Korean Conflict.
Loran married Judy Hiatt in 1958 in Kellogg, Idaho at St. Rita’s Church in a double ceremony with his brother Bill and Judy’s sister Jo Ann Hiatt. Loran and Judy had three children, Trudy, Cathy and Steve. They moved to California in 1962.
Loran was a proud member of the operating engineers union and worked as a heavy equipment operator and mechanic for Glage Underground Construction in Campbell, California.
Among his many hobbies were square dancing, building and driving dune buggies, fishing, hunting, brewing beer, bee keeping and gardening. He was an accomplished tile setter, carpenter and home remodeler
Loran was a member of the Knights of Columbus, a parishioner of Sacred Heart in Saratoga, California, St. Thomas of Canterbury in Campbell, California and most recently, again a member of St. Rita’s in Kellogg, Idaho. He also belonged to the Kellogg Elks Lodge #1841. Loran enjoyed dressing up as a leprechaun on St. Patricks Day- he would do anything to make someone smile and “Loran the Leprechaun” is a memory that will be held in the hearts of his friends and family forever.
After Judy passed away he married Kathleen “Kathy” Metzgar on June 30, 2001 in Kellogg.
Loran is survived by his wife Kathy McPeak; three children Trudy Hiatt of Santa Clara, California, Cathy Menendez of San Jose, California and Steve McPeak of San Jose, California; two grandsons Andrew and Eric Haas of San Jose, California; his brother Bill (Jo Ann) McPeak of San Jose, California; his sisters Donna McPeak of El Cajon, California and Dolores Meuchel of Hamilton, Montana. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Dick and Wayne McPeak.
Loran is also loved and remembered by his stepchildren Terri (Bob) Wild of Kingston, Idaho, Patti (Mark) McCoy of Puyallup, Washington, Shelly (Jay) Martello of Auburn, Washington; and their children Tiffany (Andrew) Kotschevar, Shala (Marcus) Pacheco, Bryce McCoy, Makenzie McCoy, Jamee (Michael) Feuling, Chandler (Ashley) Martello; and five great-grandchildren.
Rosary Services and a Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, December 31, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at the St. Rita’s Catholic Church of Kellogg with Father Jerome Montez serving as celebrant. A reception and a gathering of family and friends will be held at the Church Fellowship Hall following services.
