Lois Earlene Gilman entered into heavenly peace on April 18, 2015, with her family by her side at Hospice House in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. She was born in Mulberry, Kansas June 6, 1929 to Ora and Marcella Montee. Lois moved from Kansas to Osburn, Idaho at the age of five.
Lois attended grades one through seven in Osburn. At the age of thirteen the family moved to Kellogg where she graduated from Kellogg High School in 1947. Lois married Walter Gilman December 24, 1947 in Kellogg where they lived until his death in December 2012.
She attended the Assembly of God church where she taught Sunday school. At the time of her death, Lois was attending the American Lutheran church.
Lois purchased the Mode O’Day store in 1969-1973. She was a member of the NABA (National American Business Association) for a number of years. She also worked at the Valley Sewing Center for nine years. For twenty nine years, she was an active member of the Valley Arts and Crafts. Lois was a dedicated volunteer at the Kellogg Senior Center for twenty years. For her dedication to the community she was nominated and honored as citizen of the year by the Kellogg Elks in 2007.
Lois is preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, her parents, three sisters and one grandchild. She is survived by her daughter Janis (Gregg) Thomas of Newman Lake, Washington, daughter Connie Merrill of Albany, Oregon and her son Stan (Mary) Gilman of Silver Creek, Washington; four grandchildren, Frank (Lisa) Thomas of Liberty Lake, Washington, Adam Gilman of Marysville, Washington, Stephanie (Laird) Allen Jr. of Longview, Washington, and James Merrill of Albany, Oregon; four great-grandchildren, three sisters and two brothers. Lois is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Shoshone Medical Center, the police and fire departments and EMTs of Kellogg, the staff of Kootenai Health in Coeur d’Alene and the staff of the Hospice House in Coeur d’Alene. A special thank you to Dennis Tate for always being there and to Christie and Kent Jarvey for their concern and watchful eyes on Lois. The family greatly appreciates all the care that was given our mother.
At Lois’ request, no services will be held. The family suggests donations be made to a pet rescue of your choice.
