Laverne “Shorty” Merton Wellman, 93, of Pinehurst, Idaho, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2015, at the Pacifica of Pinehurst. He was born January 29, 1922 in Priest River, Idaho; Shorty was the son of Merton and Clara (Beamis) Wellman.
Shorty attended and graduated from the North Central High School of Spokane, Washington. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in England.
Shorty married Sally Boothe on July 5, 1945 in Rushden Village, England. They moved to the Silver Valley in 1946.
Shorty had served as a truck driver for the Pik Kwik Grocery Store of Kellogg.
Shorty was a member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. He loved the outdoors- fly fishing and tying his own flies, hunting, hiking and picking huckleberries. Shorty will always be remembered by the ones who loved him.
Shorty is survived by two sons Mike (Renee) Wellman of England and Chris (Barb) Wellman of Cataldo, Idaho; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife Sally in 2009, one daughter Sally Anne Wellman and one son Matthew Wellman.
Memorial Services will be held on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at 11:00 A.M., at the Kellogg Funeral Chapel of Kellogg with Pastor Art Fleming officiating. A reception and a gathering of family and friends will be held in the Kellogg Chapel following services.
