John D. Knapp passed away at his home in Pinehurst on July 27, 2016. John was born on July 20, 1944 to Austin and Nancy Knapp in Wallace, ID.
At the age of 7 John began working at his father's lumber mill on Black Lake and continued working in the timber industry until he enlisted in the United States Army where he proudly served in Vietnam. When John returned home he went back to the timber industry in the Potlatch area for several years where he made many close friends. In the early 80's he returned to the Silver Valley and began working for his close and dear friend Frank Seatz at Silver Valley Tire as a manager for 18 years. John retired from Silver Valley Tire and went to work for MK and several other contractors on the Superfund clean up Project, as a truck driver.
John was an avid snowmobile rider and enjoyed riding motorcycles. He was a mechanic by nature and neighbors often could hear John revving up his snowmobile, motorbike or any other project he was working on at the time.
John loved being outdoors, he enjoyed riding his four wheeler around town and liked helping his very close friend Dean Swan at Valley Power Sports. John was always amazed by Dean's talent and skills and loved spending time with him.
John was well known throughout the community and enjoyed spending time with close friends and at the Silver Valley Senior Center where he made many more friends. John was a honest man and was not afraid to speak his mind and give his opinion wether you wanted to hear it or not.
