John H. Thompson, 90, of Kingston, ID, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2024 at Pacifica Senior living in Pinehurst, ID. John was born on June 28, 1943 in Missoula Montana to Cecil and Laurise Thompson.

At age 12, life lead him down a different path leading him to his forever family, Warren and Ailie Van and their son, Mike. They treated him like blood and John was always grateful for the life he had with them. John graduated from Kingston High School and went on to attend the University of Idaho. He was an Army veteran and after returning from active duty, he went to DeVry Technical Institute in Chicago. While in Chicago, in order to pay for his room and board, he worked at the currency exchange.

John returned to the Silver Valley and married his wife Patricia Cochrane in 1960. Their daughter,Sarah, arrived in 1962 with a second daughter, Phyllis, arriving in 1964. Although well educated, Dad was a logger at heart. He worked over 40 years for the Kellogg Transfer retiring in 1989.

His three grandchildren were the light of his life, and any time he saw them or spoke of them his eyes would dance and he would burst with pride at the wonderful young people they had become.

John is survived by his wife of 64 years, Patricia Thompson; his daughters and son's in-laws, Sarah (John) Mason and Phyllis (John) Towne; his four grandchildren, Nicole (Ross) Rumpel, John Towne Jr., Jarrod Towne, and Mary (David) Bishop; his three sisters, Lois Mohr, Sharon Alexander and Theresa Meeks all of Superior, MT. We would be remiss if we didn’t mention his other "kids" who meant so much to him, Matt VanHoose, Terri Robinson and Cheryl Joyner.

John’s family wishes to extend a special thank you to Mountain Valley of Cascadia in Kellogg and Pacifica Sr. Living in Pinehurst. The care Dad received was unbelievable and we will be forever grateful.

Per John's request, no service will be held.
