John Joseph Grzan, 90, of Mullan, Idaho, passed away June 10, 2015 at Silver Wood Good Samaritan in Silverton, Idaho. John was born May 15, 1925 in Ironwood, Michigan. He was the only son of John and Annie Grzan.
John grew up in Ironwood and immediately after graduation from high school enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served on the aircraft carrier San Jacinto, Third Fleet, in World War II. During his service, he was awarded the Silver Star and the Bronze Star for valor in combat. After being discharged, he moved to Mullan, Idaho and has lived there since 1945.
John was a miner at the Lucky Friday Mine for 40 years. At the time of his retirement he was the employee that had been there the longest.
John is survived by his four children, Beverly (K.C.) Soggs, Tony Grzan, Susan (Stan) Weeks, and Mary Ivanoff; six grandchildren, Christopher, Aaron, Trevor, Ayzlynn, Lucas, and Stephen; and one sister, Mary Long. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Helen Banfield.
Cremation will take place and a private family service will be held.
