John Wheeler Cook Jr., 82, of Osburn, ID, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away on March 2, 2024 at Shoshone Medical Center in Kellogg, ID. John was born June 22, 1941 in Charleston, SC to the late John and Carolyn (Friendly) Cook.   

He graduated from Summerville High School in South Carolina in 1959 and then joined the Army and was stationed at Fairchild AFB where he met Lynn McGillis. The two married in Wallace, ID in 1965. John worked at the Bunker Hill Mine until its closure in 1981. He worked for Gravley Furnace and Fuel as well as a US Mail Contractor until his retirement. 

John was always the life of the party. His great laugh and sense of humor brought joy to everyone that surrounded him. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved motorcycling, four wheeling, fishing, tying flies, gardening, huckleberry picking, camping, and sitting on his back porch.  During the winter months, John and Lynn enjoyed being snowbirds in Arizona.  

John is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Lynn Cook of the family home in Osburn, ID; son, Chris (Debbie) Cook of Osburn, ID; daughter, Lisa (Bob) Delbridge of Yuma, AZ; two grandsons Nathan (Alyssa) Cook of Coeur d’Alene, and Kidman (Emily) Cook of Osburn, ID, and four great- grandchildren, Cali, Addi, Jackson and Madilynn.

Donations in John’s memory may be made to the Shoshone Cancer Resource Center, PO Box 261, Kellogg, ID 83837. 

A celebration of John's life will be held at a later date.
