Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, Jewel D. Bening, 80, of Pinehurst, Idaho, passed away November 13, 2013 at the Shoshone Medical Center of Kellogg. She was born October 21, 1933 at Douglas, Arizona; Jewel was the daughter of Mercer Wood and Eva (Patterson) Bouldin.
Jewel attended and graduated from the Orofino High School of Orofino, Idaho. She married James “Jim” Bruce Bening on May 5, 1951 at Asotin, Washington.
Jewel and Jim moved to the Silver Valley in 1952 from Orofino.
Jewel was a homemaker and had also served as a nurses aide at the East Shoshone Hospital of Silverton for several years.
Jewel had served as the first president of the Lady Lions of the Pinehurst-Kingston Lions Club; when serving as president, Jewel’s first program was the dedication of the Pinehurst Post Office.
Jewel loved and enjoyed her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandson. She also enjoyed gardening and in later years, Jewel became an accomplished artist and painter.
Jewel is survived by her beloved husband of sixty-two years James “Jim” B. Bening of the family home of Pinehurst; three children James (Leslie) Bening, Jr. of Post Falls, Idaho, Wilson (Candy) Bening of Cataldo, Idaho and Shannon Bening of Rio Rancho, New Mexico; three grandchildren Heather (Marc) Dayton of Spokane Valley, Washington, Casandra Bening of Cataldo and Brooke Bening of Cataldo; one great-grandson Blake Dayton of Spokane Valley, Washington and he soon will be joined by a brother Colton Dayton; one brother Mercer “Woody” Bouldin of Tucson, Arizona; she is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Jewel was preceded in death by her parents, and four sisters Lena, Pearl, Betty and Grace.
Cremation was held and private family services will be held.
