Janice Ellen Bailey, 76, of Kellogg, ID, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, peacefully passed away surrounded by her loving family on July 4, 2023 at the Schneidmiller Hospice House in Coeur d’Alene, ID. Janice was born on September 9, 1946 in Plummer, ID, a daughter of the late Lawrence and Ellen (McCartney) Jerome.
Jan met the love of her life, Ed Bailey, in junior high school, at the very young age of 14. They dated all through their school years until they both graduated from Kellogg High School, Class of 1965. They married on September 3, 1965 and then went on to raise four boys together. She loved her husband and children and dedicated her life to being a stay-at-home mom and wife. Jan was a strong and beautiful person who loved unconditionally. Once the boys were raised, she went to work at the Kellogg Food Bank for many years. It wasn’t until later in her golden years when she would ride along with Ed delivering cars for Dave Smith Motors. They enjoyed that time together traveling to different places.
Jan’s biggest enjoyment in life was camping with family and friends. She never underestimated a gigantic campfire where she could roast herself a “REALLY BURNT” hotdog and save one for her breakfast the next morning. She also had a love for wind chimes and she enjoyed annoying Ed when seeing how many she could possibly hang off their travel trailer awning and hanging them all around their river property. Jan also enjoyed baking, canning, playing cards, slot machines, bingo, crocheting, going on three cruises to Alaska with Ed, but above all, it was her love of spending time with her family and friends that she loved the most.
She was a member and Council President of the Knights of Pythian Sisters. She enjoyed traveling around to all the different lodges and meeting new people. She was also a member of the Grandmother’s Club and won Grandmother of the Year in 2016. Jan was also the president of Little League baseball, belonged on a bowling league, and was a member of the Birthday Club.
In addition to her parents, Jan is preceded in death by a sister, Linda Hasz.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, Jan leaves behind her loving husband Ed Bailey of the family home in Kellogg, ID; her four sons, Paul (Lexie) Bailey of Kellogg, ID, Kelly (Clarissa) Bailey of Pinehurst, ID, Mike (fiancée Kim) Bailey of Burbank, WA, and Chad (Alice) of Post Falls, ID; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; one brother, Ed (Karen) Jerome; two sisters, Joyce (Larry) Hanson and Nancy O’Neill. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.
Jan will be dearly missed but she is in a better place now and her legacy will live on through all the kindness and guidance she has given to her family and others.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 28, 2023, 1:00 PM at the Silver Valley Worship Center, 307 Main St., Smelterville, ID. A gathering and luncheon for family and friends will immediately follow the services in the church’s meeting room.
