James Hugh Daugherty III, 94
James Hugh Daugherty III, 94, of Cataldo, Idaho, passed away January 1, 2019, at Sacred Heart Medical Center of Spokane, Washington. He was born November 18, 1924 in Alliance, Nebraska; the son of James and Clara (Garrett) Daugherty.
James attended and graduated from Alliance High School of Alliance, Nebraska, class of 1942. After graduation, James enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany and France while he served our country during WWII.
James moved to the Silver Valley in 1947 where he met the love of his life, June Holand. He was united in marriage on June 18, 1949, in Superior, Montana and together they settled in Cataldo and raised their children. James began working in the mining industry and shortly after, started his own logging business, Daugherty Logging, which he owned and operated for over 40 years. During his long career in the logging industry, James also found time to farm his land, raise cattle, and maintain many apartments and rental homes that he owned.
Although James was a busy man, he enjoyed working in the yard and raising a garden in his spare time. He also enjoyed taking vacations with his family to go deep sea fishing on the west coast or fishing in Canada.
James was a member of the Kellogg Elks Lodge #1841, the Coeur d’ Alene Eagles Club #486, and the VFW Post #5947.
James is survived by his daughter, Julie Spurway of Cataldo, Idaho; his sons, Mike (Karen) Daugherty and Marc (Peggy) Daugherty, both of Cataldo, Idaho; his brother, Melwyn (Sandra) Daugherty of Carson City, Nevada; his sister, Maxine Rice of Iowa; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. James was preceded in death by both parents, James and Clara; his beloved wife, June; his daughter, Adele, and twin daughters, Jamey and Jayne; his son, Marlin; his brothers: Melvin, Kenneth, Richard and Donald; and his sisters, Virginia and Eileen.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on January 10th, 2019 at the Kellogg Chapel with Pastor Berti officiating. Following services, interment will take place at Hunt Cemetery of Kingston, Idaho.
