Ione Lucille Halkowiez, 94
Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, Ione Lucille Halkowiez, 94, of Wallace, Idaho, passed away May 4, 2016 at Shoshone Medical Center of Kellogg. She was born February 23, 1922 in Saxon, Wisconsin; Ione was the daughter of Joseph and Ida (Emery) Page.
Ione attended and graduated from the Saxon High School of Saxon, Wisconsin. She married Erland Mattila on October 9, 1941 and they resided in Osburn, Idaho until divorcing in 1966. Ione married Fred Halkowiez on August 31, 1978 in Dallas, Texas; Fred passed away in 1990.
She worked in Dallas as a sales clerk at Macy’s Department store for forty plus years and retired from Macy’s at the age of 85.
Ione returned to the Silver Valley in July of 2008 from Dallas, Texas; to be closer to her family.
Ione was a member of the Red Hat Ladies and a volunteer for the Wallace Chamber of Commerce and the Wallace visitors center.
Ione loved and enjoyed her family, she was an avid reader and enjoyed collecting elephants, as well as, salt & pepper shakers.
Ione is survived by her son Elmer (Corki) Mattila of Wallace, Idaho; her daughter Judi (Gary) Emblen of West Linn, Oregon; three grandchildren Jamie (Louis) Reynolds, Colby (Shannon) Mattila and Scott Emblen; four great-grandchildren Millie, Mary, Charlie and Annie; one brother Roger Page of Hurley, Wisconsin. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Ione was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Fred and five brothers and sisters.
Cremation will be held and a private family celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
The family suggests that memorials may be made to the Wallace Public Library, 415 River Street Wallace, Idaho 83873.
