Iona Sophina Frances Huber, 84
Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, Iona Sophina Frances Huber, 84, of Kellogg, Idaho, passed away June 6, 2016 at the Kindred Mountain Valley Care & Rehabilitation of Kellogg. She was born October 6, 1931 in Westby, Montana; Iona was the daughter of Ollie and Gladys (Loglin) Wirtzberger.
Iona attended and graduated from the Westby High School of Westby, Montana. She moved to the Silver Valley in 1950 from Montana. Iona married Jay H. Huber on July 5, 1952 in Wallace, Idaho.
Iona was a homemaker. She was also the ultimate example of a volunteer and one who cared and loved her community; she was loved by so many. Iona was a proud member of the Kellogg Elks Lodge#1841, a member of the Lady Elks, a member of the Kellogg Lady Elks Drill Team and a member of the Elks Dart League. Iona was also honored as Grand Marshall of the Kellogg Elks Parade, as well as, the Fourth of July Celebration Parade. She was also awarded the Historic Silver Valley Chamber of Commerce Mattmiller Award for excellent community service in 2014. Iona was a member of the Kellogg Bowing League of which she so enjoyed. She served as chairman of the Elks Blood Bank for forty years. Iona was honored with “Elk Of The Year”.
Iona loved and enjoyed her family and friends, camping, picnics, bowling and gambling.
Iona is survived by her beloved family two children Jay L. (Diane) Huber of Pinehurst, Idaho, Cindy (Mark) Absec of Kellogg, Idaho; five grandchildren Alvin Huber, Tim Huber, Briana (Mark) Cole, Barry Absec and Jennifer Absec; eleven great-grandchildren; one sister Magel “Poochie” Dale of Champagne, Illinois; one brother Clyde “Bucky” (Deedee) Wirtzberger of Great Falls, Montana; she is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and her dear friend Mary Lennon. Iona was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jay who passed away in 2001 and two sisters.
Memorial Services will be held on Friday, June 17, 2016, at 11:00 A.M., at the Mountain View Congregational Church of Kellogg with Pastor Art Fleming officiating. A reception and a gathering of family and friends will be held at the Kellogg Elks following services; this will be potluck and everyone is welcome.
