Harriet “Freda” F. Clark, 90

Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, Harriet “Freda” F. Clark, 90, a former resident of Arizona, but due to illness, had moved to Cataldo seven years ago to be near her daughter and son-in-law Patricia and Major Bill Alf,  passed away November 21, 2016 at the Kindred Nursing & Rehabilitation- Mountain Valley of Kellogg.  She was born October 7, 1926 in Phoenix, Arizona; Freda was the daughter of George H. and Helena E. (Perry) Carlin.

Freda attended and graduated from the Phoenix Union High School of Phoenix, Arizona in 1944.

Freda married Colonel Philip S. Clark of the U.S. Air Force, on February 14, 1945 in Phoenix, Arizona.

Freda was a beloved homemaker and a military wife; she had traveled extensively all over the world with Philip.

Freda was a member of the Officers Wives Club, a volunteer and member of the Gray Ladies- a Womens’ organization of the American Red Cross and a very active member of the POW-MIA organization.  Harriet had also volunteered at the Phoenix City Zoo for several years.  She was also a caregiver for her beloved husband Philip, who suffered from cancer for many years.

Freda loved and enjoyed her family, entertaining for family and friends, cooking (she would often cook items out of her husband’s garden), she was an avid bridge player and enjoyed playing the game Mah jongg.

Freda is survived by her daughter Patricia (US Army Major Bill) Alf of Cataldo, Idaho; a granddaughter who was raised as a daughter Shannon (Charles) Summers of Mission Viejo, California; three grandchildren Kristine (Matt) Alf Rippee of LaGrande, Oregon, Kelly (Robbie) Alf Johnson of Germany and Frederick W. Alf, III of Williamsburg, Virginia; twelve great-grandchildren; one brother George (Helen) Carlin, Jr. of Glendale, Arizona; one sister Ann (Tony) Kulina of Cave Creek, Arizona; she is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.  Freda was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Colonel Philip S. Clark in 2004; her son Lieutenant Commander Philip S. Clark, Jr., a Navy pilot on an A-7 shot down over Haiphong, North Vietnam and missing in action for sixteen years; a grandson who was raised as a son Lieutenant Terry L. Clark, also a Navy pilot who died in an F-14 engine failure crash in 1996.

Graveside Services will be held in February at the V.A. National Memorial Cemetery of Phoenix, Arizona at a later date.

The family suggests that memorials may be made to the Kindred Nursing & Rehabilitation- Mountain Valley, 601 W. Cameron Ave. Kellogg, Idaho 83837.
