Harold Nickelby

Harold “Nick” Francis Nickelby, 84, of Smelterville, Idaho, passed away January 26, 2015 at the Valley Vista Care Center of St. Maries, Idaho. He was born March 22, 1930 in Spokane, Washington; Nick was the son of Harold Marcus and Bonita Jane (Nibler) Nickelby.

Nick has lived in the Silver Valley all of his life. He married Judith “Judy” Torgerson on May 15, 1998 in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho.

Nick had first served as a miner and had worked at various mines in the Silver Valley. He then entered the logging industry and had worked for the Sverdsten Logging Company. Nick then decided to enter business and had owned and operated Nick’s Welding of Kingston, Idaho; after selling the business he still performed welding jobs. Nick had also worked as a Greens Keeper for the Pinehurst Golf Course of Pinehurst and had worked for the street department for the City of Smelterville. Nick loved to fly and had a pilots license, he would often fly for individuals, businesses and companies.

Nick was a member of the Kellogg Elks #1841 and a member of the Masonic Lodge of Cataldo. He loved and enjoyed flying, golfing, hunting, fishing, boating and playing pool and darts; he had also been a member of a mens bowling league.

Nick is survived by his beloved wife Judy Nickelby of the family home of Smelterville, Idaho; four children Monte Nickelby of Pinehurst, Idaho, Rick Nickelby of Richfield, Utah, Bunita (Curt) Stockhoff of LaGrande, Oregon and Jeff (Annette) Nickelby of Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho; his step-daughter Shannon (Randy) Cumbaa of Spirit Lake, Idaho; his step-son David (Kristi) Deitz of Culpeper, Virginia; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild; one sister JoAnne Jennings of Carson City, Nevada; Nick is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Celebration of Nick’s Life will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at Croakers of Kingston, Idaho, at 1:00 P.M.; this will be potluck and everyone is welcome.
