Beloved brother, uncle and friend Gerald “Gary” (Stubby) Lee Gearhart, 56, of Smelterville, Idaho passed away on November 9, 2015 at Shoshone Medical Center in Kellogg, Idaho. Gary was born November 28, 1958 in Van Nuys, California; he was the son of Richard and Christine (Leffingwell) Gearhart.
Gary was raised in California and worked at the ship yards before moving to the Silver Valley from San Diego in 1978. He worked at the Bunker Hill Mine and the Silver Refinery in Smelterville. He moved back to San Diego for a time where he worked construction and helped build Sea World. Gary returned to the Silver Valley where he helped build the Gondola and Silver Mountain Resort. For the last 20 years Gary, with his brother Mike, have traveled and worked in Colorado, Utah and Nevada.
Gary enjoyed 4-wheeling and was part of an ATV club. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and socializing with friends at the Long Shot Saloon and The Wheel Bar. Gary was a witty guy with a great sense of humor, who was a lot of fun to be around.
He is survived by his brother Mike (Carrot) Gearhart of Smelterville; his sister Beverly Sheriff of San Diego; his nieces Amber and Tina; his nephews Mike and Mark; and several other nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. Gary is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Fred Gearhart and his sister Gloria McKinney.
Cremation will take place and a gathering will be announced at a later date.
