Gary Shelley

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Gary LeRoy Shelley, 67, of Kellogg, Idaho, passed away January 26, 2015 at the Lacrosse Health & Rehabilitation Center of Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho. He was born June 18, 1947 in Silverton, Idaho; Gary was the son of Forrest Orville and Doris Leona (Larson) Shelley.

Gary grew up and attended schools in Wallace; he moved away for a short time, but returned to the Silver Valley which was home.

Gary married Cheryl “Cheri” Pennington on March 21, 1980 in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho.

Gary was a miner and had mined in most of the mines in the Silver Valley, until he retired.

Gary loved and enjoyed fishing, hunting, ATVing, camping and taking long rides. He was happiest when spending time with his grandchildren and having family over for backyard barbeques. Gary also enjoyed spending much time doing yard work and talking over the fence with his neighbors.

Gary was very thankful to Barb Hodgeman, who helped him find his brother Bob and sister Carol, who had been adopted out before he was born; Gary was the little brother neither of them had, calling constantly to see what was going on and just wanting to talk; there was a special friendship and family bond between Gary, Bob and Carol.

Gary is survived by his beloved wife Cheryl “Cheri” Shelley of the family home of Kellogg; four sons Gary M. Shelley of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Jason (Tricia) Shelley of Spring Creek, Nevada, Darin (Rachael) Shelley of Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho and Chad (Lateesha) Shelley of Kellogg; seven wonderful grandchildren Megan, Austin, Harrison, Riley, Lillian, Taylor and Kayloni; three brothers Michael (Judy) Shelley of Osburn, Idaho, David Hanson of Wallace, and Forrest Shelley of Worley, Idaho; eight sisters Carol (Mike) Ogden of Everett, Washington, Diane (Ron) Sharp of Pine Creek, Idaho, Vicky (Buck) Young of Orofino, Idaho, Cheryl Hanson of Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho, LaVone Olsen of Hayden Lake, Idaho, Joan C. Scott of Spokane, Washington and Helen C. (Frank) Malone of Spokane; he is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Gary was also close to his father-in-law Wayne Pennington and had many brother and sister-in-laws that he was close friends with. He was preceded in death by his parents Forrest Shelley and Doris Hanson; a sister Hallie Johnson and a brother Robert Lewis.

Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2015, at 2:00 P.M. at the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Osburn, Idaho with Pastor John Pierce officiating. There will be a reception/luncheon at the church following services; this will be potluck and everyone is welcome.
