Gary Azevedo

December 10, 1945 — November 25, 2014


Beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather, Gary T. Azevedo 68, of Mullan, Idaho, died peacefully in his home after a long battle with illness on November 25, 2014. He was born December 10, 1945 in San Jose, California. Gary was the son of Herman and Lona (Bent) Azevedo.

Gary grew up in San Jose and graduated from San Jose College with a degree in Math and Electronics which began his career in the cable construction industry. Gary was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and the Vietnam War, where he served two tours on board the USS Bon Homme Richard CV-31, the largest hydrofoil ship ever created, USS Plainview and USS Cascade. He won numerous awards and medals though his service. Gary worked in the cable construction industry for 39 years and retired in 2008 as the Director of Construction for XL Cable Corporation. His attention to detail was legendary and his desire to lead, direct and run an efficient team throughout the west coast was impeccable.

After retirement Gary moved to Mullan, where he relaxed with his wife and 5 pugs, taking rides throughout the mountains, discovering new places, and enjoying his love for bowling as he helped take care of the local bowling alley. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Navy never left him, as friends and family will attest. Gary shared his love for travel, camping, learning, exploration and craftsmanship with everyone he held dear.

Gary is survived by is wife of 29 years, Sue; three daughters, Sheri (Jim) Rudy, Sheila Azevedo (Claude Clifton), Jennifer ( Che) Castagnoli; one son Kristopher Azevedo; one sister Pam Azevedo. He is also survived by five grandchildren Tessa Rudy, Kristopher Azevedo, Tatum Rudy, Whitney Azevedo and Marco Castagnoli; and one great grandchild Brayden Rudy Coveau.

A gathering of family and friends will be held Saturday November 29th, 2-4pm at The Morning Club in Mullan.
