Francis Jones

Francis “Clark” Jones of Kellogg, Idaho passed away on January 12, 2016 at the Kindred Nursing Home in Kellogg. He was born on September 4, 1933 in Gregory, South Dakota; Clark was the son of Francis and Cornelia (Smith) Jones.

Clark attended and graduated from Kellogg High School. He then went on to further his education at Eastern Washington University, University of Idaho, Ohio State University and finally Washington State University where he received his PHD in Education Administration.

Clark devoted his life to education. He started working as a teacher before becoming a principal and then a superintendent. Clark retired as the Alaska State Director of Adult Basic and Continuing Education.

In his free time Clark enjoyed snow skiing, traveling to Sturgis for the motorcycle rally and was a race car enthusiast. He once got the chance to drive an Indy car around a track in Las Vegas. Clark also was a little league coach and a softball umpire.

Clark is survived by his four children, Mark Jones of Page, Idaho, Deniece (Kirk) Smith of Juneau, Alaska, Wendy (Dwayne) Griffin of Palouse, Washington and Craig Jones of Juneau, Alaska; brother-in-law Kris (Shelley) Mader and children Brynne and Ross; Sister-in-law Barbi Jones; seven grandchildren, Brian, Janelle, Matt, Lee, Tessa, Tulip and Eddie. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, stepfather Francis Hawkins, brother Tommy Jones and son Greg.

Cremation will be held and a private family service will be held at a later date.
