My father was a “Great” man. I hope to honor him with these words.
Born December 9, 1926 in Camas, Washington to Iva and Clint Abercrombie. The family moved to Gooding, Idaho, where he went to school with his two sisters. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
A Navy veteran, he served in WW II in the Pacific. After the war he met Dorothy Jepperson at Oakley’s Ice Cream Shoppe. They were married September 29, 1947. They had two children, Michael born August 1948 and Marta born June 1952. He went to Barber College on the GI Bill, however woodworking was more to his liking. Gene became a Master Craftsman and had many different jobs and adventures. I have many beautiful treasures in our home, made by his hand. He retired from the Idaho School for the Deaf and Blind, as their Master Carpenter. During his retirement, Gene opened a golf shop, where he made new clubs and repaired clubs. He loved to play golf, while his health allowed it.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents and older sister Cleone. He is survived by daughter Marta Abercrombie-Kibbee and husband Clay of Pinehurst, Idaho; his younger sister Arlene Jarvis of Gooding, Idaho; also surviving are nieces, nephews, great nieces and great-great nephews in Southern Idaho, Arizona and Louisiana.
