Ella May Gorshe, 94, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away on January 7, 2023, at Good Samaritan Society – Silverwood Village, Silverton, ID. Ella May was born on August 19, 1928 in Fergus Falls, MN, a daughter of the late Nels and Brytheva Scott.
Ella May graduated from Battle Lake High School, Class of 1947, in Battle Lake, MN. After graduating high school, she listened to her calling to be a teacher and attended Moorhead State Teacher’s College of Moorhead, MN and later attended Eastern Washington State University where she received a Bachelors of Arts in child psychology. Her first teaching position was teaching 5th grade in Hoffman, MN. In 1950, Ella May moved to Mullan and taught 5th grade at John Mullan Elementary in Mullan, ID from 1950 until 1957.
On August 23, 1953, she married Louis J. Gorshe in Battle Lake, MN. After leaving her teaching position, she and Louis raised a family and, after their children had grown, Ella May returned to the teaching profession teaching 2nd grade for 28 years in Mullan. Louis later passed away on December 6, 2010.
Ella May was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Mullan as well as a member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML). She also volunteered for many years at the John Mullan Museum.
She enjoyed sewing, quilting and tatting lace, especially the many lace snowflakes she gave as gifts throughout the years. Ella May was quite the baker and always had cookies at hand. She was an avid reader and in previous years, she and Louis loved traveling and gardening.
In addition to her parents, and husband, Louis, Ella May is preceded in death by three sisters, Alice, Harriet and Olga; and two brothers, Bernard and Anders Scott.
Survivors include a son, Steven (Bonnie) Gorshe of Beaverton, OR; daughter, Jacki (Pudge) Almquist of St. Regis, MT; two grandchildren, Alex Gorshe and Ian Gorshe both of Beaverton, OR; one great-granddaughter, Joyce Rose Gorshe; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, friends, and former students throughout the Silver Valley.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2023, 11:00 AM at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Mullan, ID. A reception will follow the services at the church. All are welcome.
