Elizabeth (Liz) Ann McDermott, 78

Beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, Elizabeth (Liz aka Betsy) Ann McDermott, 78, of Pinehurst, Idaho, passed away on April 10, 2016 at Shoshone Medical Center in Kellogg, Idaho after a lengthy illness.  Elizabeth was residing at Kindred Rehabilitation and Nursing Home for the past 8 months. Elizabeth was born December 8, 1937 in Emmett, Idaho; she was the daughter of Relda and Ethel (Church) Handley. Elizabeth grew up on the family farm called Soldier Creek Ranch near Emmitt, Idaho.

She came to the Silver Valley in the earlier 50’s where husband (George Ackerman) could work as a miner. She worked as a meat butcher for over 20 years at Johnson’s Meat Market, Wayside Market and Barney’s Harvest Foods. Elizabeth was also a bus driver for the Kellogg School District for 28 years. She watched two generations of school children grow up.

She married the love of her life Larie McDermott on June 27, 1981 until his passing April 17, 1995.  She always said it was the best 13 years and she wouldn’t have traded a thing about their marriage except to have him stay longer.  Elizabeth loved scratch off lottery tickets. She was known as the “Scratch Off Queen of the Valley”!

Elizabeth is survived by her daughter Linda Ackerman of Pinehurst; her best friend and companion Melro and granddog Abbygail, her brother Burke (Maria) Handley of Ontario, Oregon; Step-son and daughter-in-law Mike and Jan McDermott from Pilot Point Rock, Washington and numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband; her children Michael Allen, Sandra Arlene, Stephen Arnold, Cynthia Lee and James Leslie; and her siblings Claire Osburn, Sherm Handley, Nerva Mederos, and Keith Handley.

A Memorial Service for Elizabeth will be held on April 23, 2016 1:30 PM at Christian Life Center, 308 W. Mission, Kellogg with Jackson Menke officiating. A reception will follow at the church.
