Edward “Big Ed” Henry Pfenning, 87, of Wallace, Idaho, passed away March 27, 2015 at the Benewah Community Hospital of St. Maries, Idaho. He was born February 13, 1928 in Denver, Colorado; Ed was the son of Alex and Pauline (Schlitz) Pfenning.
Ed attended and graduated form the Denver High School of Denver, Colorado; he then attended college in Greely, Colorado. Ed had also served in the U.S. Navy during WW II.
Ed moved to the Silver Valley in 1953 from Aguilar, Colorado.
Ed served as a high school teacher in Industrial Arts at the Wallace High School. Ed along with others, helped to develop and start the wrestling program, as well as, he coached wrestling at the Wallace High. He had also served as an instructor in Drivers Education. During the Summers, Ed worked for the U.S. Forest Service. After thirty years in education, he retired and went to work for Consolidated Silver for several years before Ed finally retired.
Ed was a former member of the Wallace Elks Lodge, a member of the Shoshone Masonic Lodge and a member of the Shriners.
Ed loved and enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, snowmobiling and drinking a beer and visiting with friends.
Ed is survived by three children Audrey and Dr. Bayard Miller of Silverton, Idaho, Dee Dee and Sam Brown of Moscow, Idaho and Ed R. Pfenning of Scappoose, Oregon; his son-in-law Chris DeSpain of Scappoose, Oregon; four grandchildren Janelle, Mickey, Jason and Randi; numerous great-grandchildren; one brother Harold and Jean Pfenning of Milwaukee, Oregon; he is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers, one sister and one daughter Louie DeSpain.
A Celebration of Ed’s Life and Wake will be held on Sunday, April 12, 2015, at 2:00 P.M. at the City Limits Pub of Wallace; everyone is welcome. As Ed would say- “Remember me with a smile; I am happy; have a beer on me.”
