Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother, Dorothy Cecile Calkins, 96, of Kingston, Idaho, passed away February 1, 2014 at the Mountain Valley Care & Rehab Center, Kellogg, Idaho. She was born July 29, 1917 at Vale, Oregon; Dorothy was the daughter of Warren and Cecile (Smith) Spaulding.
Dorothy attended and graduated from the University of Oregon.
Dorothy married James W Calkins on December 16, 1935 at Coeur d‘Alene, Idaho; James preceded her in death in 1972.
Dorothy worked as a music teacher. She played the organ and piano for church and for many weddings and funerals. She enjoyed teaching people to play the piano and taught lessons until the age of 92. Dorothy loved to do crafts and enjoyed crocheting, knitting, painting and reading. Dorothy was happiest when spending time with her family.
Dorothy was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She had also been a member of the Kellogg Lady Elks.
Dorothy is survived by two daughters Julie (Tom) Dunn of Pinehurst, Idaho and Jennifer Nielson of Kingston, Idaho; two sons James W (Kay) Calkins of Kingston, Idaho and Jeremy (Mary) Calkins of Pine Creek- Pinehurst, Idaho; twenty-seven grandchildren, fifty-three great-grandchildren and eleven great-great grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James, three daughters Jeanette, Jo Ann and Judy; two sons John and Jeffery; two grandsons and one granddaughter.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, February 7, 2014 at 1:00 P.M., at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints of Pinehurst, Idaho with Bishop Lonny Duce officiating. Interment will be held at the Shoshone Memorial Gardens of Pinehurst.
