Long-time Silver Valley resident, Darrel Louis Bravo, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2024, at the age of 84 after a battle with lung cancer. He was born to Helen and Darwin Rake in Minneapolis, Minnesota on March 27, 1940. When he was still very young, his mother married Aurelio Bravo. He officially changed his last name to Bravo when he joined the United States Marine Corps in 1957.

He went to boot camp at Camp Pendleton in California, was stationed in Hawaii, and then honorably discharged in 1961. After he got out of the Marine Corps, he lived and worked in Minnesota and California until he was 30, then moved to the Silver Valley in 1970. As an employee of the Bunker Hill Mining Company, he worked most of the time at the rock house until Bunker Hill permanently closed in 1991. He then worked as a millwright at different sawmills until he happily retired in 2005.

Darrel loved fishing, hunting, and spending many hours in the great outdoors with his sons and good buddy, Dick Silva. Being raised in Minnesota, he particularly loved ice fishing in the winter and trolling for crappie and walleye in the summer. He loved the classic musicals and everything about Christmas time.

Darrel married Jane (Sharp) Hartley in 1980. They had one son, Darrel Jr., and he had 5 boys from previous marriages.

He is survived by 5 sons, Terry, Todd, Scott, Johnny and Darrel, Jr.; his stepdaughters, Kim and Oma; and his stepson, Ron. He is also survived by his sister, Cheryl (Bravo) Schwab, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Darrel was preceded in death by his wife Jane; his son Kerry; his brothers, Dan and Dean; a sister, Bonnie; and his parents, Helen and Aurelio.

At Darrel’s request, the family will not be hosting a formal service. However, a Celebration of Life will be held with family and close friends. The time and place have yet to be determined.
