Dale Magnus

November 4, 1923 — August 27, 2014


Beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, Dale Edward Magnus, 90, of Kingston, Idaho, passed away August 27, 2014 at the family home of Kingston. He was born November 4, 1923 in Cheyenne Wells, Colorado; Dale was the son of Martin and Edna (Beckler) Magnus.

Dale attended schools in Colorado and then proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII; Dale was a Pearl Harbor survivor.

Dale moved to the Silver Valley sixty years ago. He married Helen L. Carpenter on February 14, 1957 in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho; they had just celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary, before Helen had passed away on March 11, 2012.

Before his retirement, Dale had served as an Acid Plant Operator for the Bunker Hill Mining Company for thirty years. He had also owned and operated a family dairy farm, supplying fresh milk, cream and eggs to many local customers and families. Dale was also known for his wonderful vegetable garden- giving away most of the vegetables he harvested. He loved most of all, raising quarter horses.

Dale was a member of the V.F.W., a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association of Spokane, a member of the Our Savior Lutheran Church of Pinehurst, a member of the Bunker Hill Twenty Year Club and a member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.

Dale loved and enjoyed his family, fishing, hunting, gardening and bird watching- he raised homing pigeons for over 50 years. Dale also loved dancing with his beloved wife Helen, to live music.

Dale is survived by six children Danny Magnus of Kingston, Idaho; Cindy Magnus and her companion Mike Galloway of Kingston; Mark (Judy) Magnus of Pinehurst; Cathy Savage and her companion Clint Townsend of Harrison; Christy (Steve) Casey of Coeur d’ Alene and Colleen (Danny) Sanders also of Coeur d’ Alene; twelve grandchildren Wade, Micah, Nicki, Angie, Johnny, Casey, Tifffany, Waylan, Lacey, Summer, Tyler and Tanner; eighteen great-grandchildren; two brothers Earl Magnus of Hayden, Idaho and Wayne Magnus also of Hayden; two sisters Verna Orr of North Carolina and Marvel Welborn of Colorado; he is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Dale was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Helen Magnus, two brothers Roy and Ralph Magnus and three sisters JoAnn Williams, Norma Watson and Lucille Lloyd.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at the Our Savior Lutheran Church of Pinehurst with Rev. Ken Bartle officiating. Interment will be held at the Hunt Cemetery of Kingston with a grandson, John Padula officiating. A reception/dinner will be held in the basement of the Our Savior Lutheran Church following services.

The family suggests that memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans Program, 2536 W. Falling Star Loop, Post Falls, Idaho 83854-9808.
