Charles Mcgillivray

July 3, 1934 — January 22, 2016

Charles W. McGillivray (Chuck), a lifelong resident of the Kingston, Idaho area, passed away January 22, 2016 at the Kindred Nursing home in Kellogg, at the age of 81.

Chuck was born at the family home in Kingston on July 03, 1934 to Alvie and Helen (Heikkila) McGillivray.

On May 29, 1956 he was united in marriage to Marion Krull, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

Chuck’s working life saw the heyday and decline of both the logging and mining industries in the Silver Valley.  He started his commercial driving career with Standard Oil.  That started his long respect for big trucks.  Chuck’s first logging truck job was with the Nearings and then many years with Sverdsten Logging.  For a short time he drove long haul.  Even though Marion often went with him, being away from his family was difficult.  Chuck then started working at the Sunshine Mine.  He was working on the morning of May 02, 1972 when the fire broke out and was one of the men that made it out of the mine that day.  Chuck went back to driving logging trucks, first for Kellogg Transfer, then C & G Construction and finally Whiteman’s Lumber.  He retired in 2002.  Even though big trucks were no longer in the picture, Chuck kept himself busy driving and tinkering with his tractor.

He is survived by his wife Marion at their home in Kingston; two daughters - Karen Wolf of Port Angeles, Wash., Jackie McGillivray and her husband Michael Leverick of Kingston, a sister Dorothy Miller of Cataldo and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother - Warren McGillivray and a sister - Helen Hill.

At Chuck’s request no services will be held.  Inurnment will take place at the Hunt Cemetery at a later date.  Memorials may be made to the Hunt Cemetery at P.O. Box 722 Pinehurst, Idaho  83850 or the Hospice of North Idaho at 9493 North Govt. Way Hayden, Idaho 83835.

Shoshone Funeral Services & Crematory in Kellogg, Idaho is entrusted with funeral services.
