Carleen Turbak

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, Carleen Helen Turbak, 75, of Kellogg, Idaho, passed away March 15, 2014 at the family home of Kellogg. She was born August 9, 1938 in Burley, Idaho; Carleen was the daughter of Benjamin and Helen (Stultz) Mahoney.

Carleen grew up in Stibnight, Idaho; she attended and graduated from the St. Therese Catholic High School of Boise, Idaho. She then attended college in Boise.

Carleen moved to the Silver Valley with her family in 1957 from Stibnight, Idaho.

Carleen married Gene Turbak on July 25, 1959 at the St. Rita’s Catholic Church of Kellogg.

Carleen had first worked as a secretary at the Bunker Hill Mining Company. She then served as a bank teller for the Idaho First National Bank of Kellogg. Carleen went to work in accounts payable for the Sunshine Mining Company for many years. And lastly, she served in medical records for the Shoshone Medical Center of Kellogg for ten years.

Carleen was a member of the St. Rita’s Catholic Church of Kellogg and a member of the Catholic Daughters; in her earlier years she was very involved in her church helping with fund raisers and events. Carleen was also a member of the Kellogg Lady Elks and a member of the Kellogg Lady Elks Drill Team; she was also very involved in the Elks helping in any way she could.

Carleen loved and enjoyed her family, crocheting Christmas trees, afghans, slippers and dish cloths. She also enjoyed picking huckleberries and making huckleberry cobbler and huckleberry cream cheese pies. Carleen also enjoyed ceramics, sewing curtains and clothing, and baking Christmas sugar cookies, fudge and popcorn balls with her granddaughters. She loved wearing bright colors and her colorful Hawaiian moo moos.

Carleen is survived by her husband of fifty-four years Gene Turbak of the family home of Kellogg; three children Craig (Loretta) Turbak of Smelterville, Todd (Jan) Turbak of Osburn and Shannon Turbak-Hoshowski of Kellogg; eight granddaughters Jina, Julieann, Chrissy, Holly, Shealeen, Carlee, Kayla and Moriah; seven great-grandchildren; one brother Franklin Mahoney of Jordan, Utah; she is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Carleen was preceded in death by her parents and one sister Nadine Louge.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2014, at 3:00 P.M. at the St. Rita’s Catholic Church of Kellogg with Father Tom Loucks serving as celebrant. A reception/luncheon will be held at the Church Parrish Hall following services. And after the reception at the Church, a gathering of family and friends will be held at the Kellogg Elks ((downstairs); everyone is welcome.
