Brendan Demasters

Brendan Patrick DeMasters, 40

Brendan Patrick DeMasters, age 40, of North Royalton, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, October 2, 2018, in Fowler, New York, from injuries sustained in a mining accident at the Empire State Mine located there.  He was employed by Major Drilling Group International Inc., a company contracted by Titan Corp., the company that owns Empire.  He had been a resident of the Silver Valley at various times throughout his lifetime along with residing in Washington, South Dakota, Nevada, Montana and Ohio.

Brendan was born March 14, 1978 in Silverton, Idaho, to Vic and Joanie (Davis) DeMasters, being the sixth child of seven children.  His childhood years began in Kellogg, Idaho, and had lived there until his family relocated to Republic, Washington due to the mine closures in the Silver Valley during the 1980’s.  He graduated from Republic High School in 1997.  His peers had voted him “life of the party”, “most remembered” and “class clown”.  Brendan had a great sense of humor and loved to joke around with his friends and make them laugh.  He would also do the same while spending time with his many cousins and other family members.  He enjoyed seeing the smiles on their faces.  Brendan was also an avid Seattle Seahawks fan and was dedicated to cheering his team on each and every week they played.  You would always see him wearing his Seattle gear while he was out and about.  In his spare time he also enjoyed taking his 4-wheeler out and going on rides.  He also loved watching wrestling and the UFC.

Brendan started his mining career shortly after graduating from high school at the Stillwater Mining Company in Nye, Montana.  He then became employed by Thyssen and worked at the East Boulder side of the Stillwater mine.  He had also worked at various mines in Nevada, Colorado and at the Galena Mine here in the Silver Valley.  He was a hard worker and always took his jobs very seriously everywhere he went.

On October 5, 2005, Brendan married Amanda Moerman in Big Timber, Montana.  They later divorced.  Brendan’s biggest joy in life were his children, Alonna and Blake, whom he loved dearly.  When he wasn’t working his time was spent with his children.  Whether it be doing things around home, taking them to watch the Cleveland Browns or the Cleveland Indians and since he loved to travel, he would also take them on trips to places such as Niagra Falls, Mexico or Florida.

Brendan also had a heart of gold.  At Christmas, he would go out and buy a handful of gift cards and give them to other family members who were in need.  You could always count on him if you needed a lending hand.  Brendan will truly be missed by so many people.

Brendan is survived by his children, Alonna and Blake DeMasters of Ohio; his father Vic DeMasters of Deer Park, Washington; four brothers Jeremy DeMasters of Big Timber, Montana, David and Dan DeMasters of Columbus, Montana, and Joseph DeMasters of Gardner, Montana; two sisters, Annette DeMasters of Big Timber, Montana and Melissa Maple of Deer Park, Washington.  He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.  He also leaves behind his many friends that he made throughout his lifetime.  Brendan was preceded in death by his mother, Joanie; his maternal grandparents, Jack and Mary Davis; and his paternal grandparents, Bill and Bonnie DeMasters.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, October 15, 2018, at 11:00 A.M.at the St. Rita’s Catholic Church of Kellogg, Idaho with Father Jerome Montez serving as celebrant.  Interment will be held at the Greenwood Cemetery of Kellogg.  A reception/luncheon will be held at the Church Fellowship Hall following services.
