Bob Christian arrived at the Providence Hospital on November 1, 1954. Although only about five pounds at the time, he brought more laughter and excitement and memories than anyone could have imagined. Those around him were a source of his joy and unceasing wit. His memory of those encountered in his early life was keen. If you knew Bob, be certain that you brought color and the glow into his world. You were in the heart of his soul. He returned a friendship with full measure and unrelenting loyalty.
Bob had a fierce love of the Valley and the Center of the Universe. He was unhappy when he was not here. After periods in Wyoming, Mississippi and West Virginia he made it a priority to get back to the Valley. When he and his wife Barbara returned, he was back where he was meant to be.
For a few, remembrances of Bob may go back to the 1950s and 60s. During those years, Bob was a boy’s boy. His athletic prowess was second to none. If you saw him on skis he was in a league of his own. His ease with people, strong independence, and charm were always evident. His absence of fear was renowned.
His final years were full of 4 wheeling, fishing, and taking in the wondrous natural beauty of Northern Idaho. The first snows on the mountains, the arrival of the cedar wax wings in Wallace, the elk on the hillside, the snow-melts of spring, and fish in the boat.
The leaves of fall were turning and beginning to drop in the Valley on September 27th. If you are not familiar with the work of hospice services, please take the time to understand and value them as you see fit. They gave Bob a comfortable transition of life. His strength and wit were with him till the end. He was a special person with his stepsons Shane Jordon, Eric and Jason Tolman and is step grandchildren Brecken and Paityn Tolman and Acoy and Avery Tolman.
Go in peace great friend.
Bob’s service will be held at the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Wallace Idaho Saturday October 4th at 1:00 p.m. and a potluck reception will follow at the Wallace Elks Club.
