Betty Jean Johnson, 81

Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend and companion, Betty Jean Johnson passed away on April 16, 2016 at Kootenai Health in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. She was born August 22, 1934 in Everett, Washington; Betty was the daughter of Albert and Alice (Pope) Beringer.

Betty grew up in Everett and graduated from Everett High School.

On July 22, 1955, Betty was united in marriage to Gordon Johnson in Everett. They moved to Post Falls in 1970; while there she and her husband started the first girl’s fast pitch softball league in North Idaho. They moved over to the Silver Valley in 1987.

Betty owned a restaurant in Kellogg called “Catch a Snack”. She also worked as a supervisor at Keytronics in Spokane. Betty was a senior companion for 21 years and a co-coordinator for the program in the Silver Valley. She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Pinehurst. Betty loved and enjoyed her family and fishing, hunting, camping and gambling.

Betty is survived by her beloved husband, Gordon of the family home in Kellogg; two daughters, Jackie (Roger) Williams of Spokane Valley, Washington and Christie Johnson of Puyallup, Washington;  son, Rick Johnson of Smelterville, Idaho; three grandchildren, Jennifer and Kim Williams of Spokane Valley and Sara Johnson of Puyallup; and 2 great-grandchildren, Dylan Williams and Baylee Bippes, both of Spokane Valley. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and sister Geraldine Goodwin.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2016, at 2:00 P.M. at the Kellogg Funeral Chapel in Kellogg with Pastor Ken Bartle officiating. A reception will be held at the chapel following the service.

The family suggests that memorials may be made to the Shoshone Cancer Resource Center, 204 Oregon Street, Suite J, Kellogg, Idaho 83837.

The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the Third Floor Critical Care Medical Team at Kootenai Health for all of their compassion and thoughtful care that was shown to Betty.
