Betty Jane Barker, 91, of Pinehurst, Idaho, passed away October 3, 2015 at the Mountain Valley Care & Rehabilitation of Kellogg, Idaho. She was born March 2, 1924 in Dayton, Wyoming; Betty was the daughter of Robert and Rosa (Groat) Montgomery. Born with eyes crossed, she survived several eye surgeries, before she was three.
Betty moved to the Silver Valley with her family at the age of six years old; they moved here from Texas.
Betty worked at a railroad depot during WW II, messaging via Morse code; she spent days and nights alone miles from town. She married Clifford O’Neil Barker on July 12, 1944 in Cataldo, Idaho. They had four children together Vicki, Gary, Janice and Susan. During the early 1950’s, Betty spent summers at the family owned logging camp in McGee, Idaho. The family returned to Pinecreek, Idaho for winters, where she served as a Sunday school teacher. Widowed on November 19, 1956, Betty moved around for several years between Washington, Idaho and as far as California and Alaska, finally settling in Pinehurst, where she worked as a senior companion.
Betty was a member of the Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints. She loved and enjoyed her family, beadwork, crocheting beautiful afghans for all of her children and grandchildren, taking walks, recording her favorite music and TV programs and making little villages which were free hand cardboard cut-outs.
Betty is survived by four children Vicki Barker of Emmett, Idaho, Gary (Connie) Barker of Kalispell, Montana, Janice Bebee of Rose lake, Idaho and Susan Barker of Kingston, Idaho; six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter; Betty is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Clifford, two grandchildren, two brothers and one sister.
Cremation will be held and Private Family Services will take place.
