Albert “Al” Stanley Alkire, 95
Albert “Al” Stanley Alkire, 95, of Silverton, Idaho, passed away June 29, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Society- Silver Wood Village of Silverton. He was born August 11, 1920 in Newell, South Dakota; Al was the son of Joe and Anna (Fredrick) Alkire.
Al attended schools in Spearfish, South Dakota. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II; he served from January 1938 through November 1941 and then again from January of 1942 through January of 1946. Al entered the Navy as a deckhand on the USS Dent and the USS Chicago, eventually going to work in the engine rooms. He was stationed off the coast of Saipon Island east of the Philippine Sea.
Al married Elinor (Hash) Kraft on November 26, 1946 in South Dakota; Elinor passed away in 1996.
Al moved to the Silver Valley in 1949. He was owner and operator of Al’s Radiator Shop of Wallace for several years. Al then served as a miner and a machinist for the Coeur Mine.
Al was a member of the Osburn V.F.W. He loved and enjoyed hunting and motorized trail bikes.
Al is survived by one daughter Judy Hackworth of Turlock, California; he is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Al was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Elinor, one son Joel Alkire and five brothers and sisters.
Cremation was held and upon his request no services will be held.
