Roma  Spencer Triplett

Roma Spencer Triplett was born on July 4, 1930 in Triplett, NC to Roxie Belle Cox and Romie Spencer Triplett.  He was the fifth child in a family of seven children.

He came west to visit his older brother, Harvey, in 1948 and fell in love with northern Idaho.  He remained, for the most part, in the Silver Valley until his death on November 8, 2019.

In 1951 he was drafted into the US Army during the Korean War.  And although he was scheduled to go to Korea, his orders were changed to stay at Camp Carson, Colorado and train others to repair heavy equipment.  While in the army, Corporal Roma Triplett became a journeymen heavy equipment mechanic.  After being honorably discharged, he served in Active Reserves/National Guard until 1967.

He met his future wife, Oradell Brower, in Kellogg, ID, and were they married on June 23, 1954 in Coeur d'Alene, ID.  They welcomed two daughters into their family, Ramona and Gail. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

He was employed at the Bunker Hill Smelter, and then at the Bunker Hill main garage as a diesel mechanic.  After Bunker Hill fully closed in 1982, he then continued to work for various companies including Louisiana Pacific in Walla Walla, WA and Freeport Mining in Elko, NV.  After retiring he continued to work for city of Wardner as their maintenance mechanic.

Romie loved to take his family huckleberry picking and fishing.  They spent many weekends camping on the St. Joe and Bumblebee Campground.  He also was an avid hunter.  His North Carolina cousins often came to Kellogg to go fishing and hunting with him.  He was a patient hunting and fishing instructor to his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was the epitome of self-reliance providing meat for his family from his hunting expeditions to building not one, but two houses:  one in Wardner and one in Priest River, ID.

Roma is survived by his wife, Oradell; his daughters Ramona Triplett Mitchell (husband Thomas McMahon) and Gail Triplett Smith (husband Scott Smith) and "adopted" daughter, Linda Brower Maravilla; grandchildren Dianne Scott, Christopher Mitchell, Elizabeth Peightal, Jillian Heilman, Pamela Allen, and Nicholas Mitchell;  18 great-grandchildren; and his sister Bina Simmons. He is preceded in death by his parents and four brothers: Verlon, Harvey, Steve, Carlos, and one sister, Zella; two grandchildren (Don and Dawna Mitchell) and one great grandchild (Cameron Allen).

Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at 11:00 AM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Pinehurst, ID.
