Leila “Lee” June Whipps

Leila “Lee” June Whipps went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 14, 2018 in Silverton, ID.  Leila was born June 10, 1924 to Charles and Ada (Swick) Grosvenor in Coeur d’Alene, ID. Lee moved to the Silver Valley as a child where she graduated from Kellogg High School in the 40’s. On July 15, 1951 she married Melvin “Bud” Whipps and together they raised five children: Janet, Christine, Leonarda, Daniel and Melva Lee.

For many years they owned and operated Builders Hardware in Osburn, ID. Lee was uniquely her own person (many times wearing big straw hats while going for walks around Pinehurst, ID in her later years.) Her journals prove the desire she had to be transformed and her devotion to praying for her kids, grandkids and great grandkids. Lee had an impressive bible collection as she enjoyed reading and researching the word in many different versions. Lee collected cross necklaces for years. Her collection was rumored to be in the triple digits. She had many different kinds of crosses with significant meaning and she kept track of who gave her a bible or cross, when and what for.

She is survived by her daughters Janet (Bob) Hartsock, Tensed, ID; Leonarda Sabey, Deer Park, WA; and Melva Tigner, Cheney, WA. She has 13 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 11 great great grandchildren. She is survived by her sister Gaye Hedges, OR; brother Dale Grosvenor, Pinehurst, ID. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bud Whipps, her son Dan Whipps, daughter Chris Bebee, her son in law Bob Tigner, granddaughter Sandra Lee Hartsock and great granddaughter Brianna Sue Cook; her sisters Jackie Dye, Myrna Robinson, and Bobbie Blackbird.

At this time there will be a small graveside service at Greenwood Cemetery in Kellogg, Idaho on her birthday June 10, 2018 followed by a potluck in the park. Her family wishes you to take the time to show those you care about an extra measure of love in honor of Lee as time does run out.
