Donald "Don" Stewart

Donald Lee Stewart – 83 years old – died August 7, 2020.

Don was born June 27th, 1937 to Harold Stewart and Ann (Conley) Stewart. Don was the eldest of eight children. The family originally moved to the Silver Valley of North Idaho in 1939. The young family moved between Montana and Idaho for a few years, then settled in Prichard, Idaho and Don graduated from Wallace High School.

Don married Marsha Parmentier and had five children. He then married Billie Peterson and added four stepchildren to the family.

Don worked various jobs and in various industries over the years, but mining was his career. He moved to Montana and worked for Stillwater Mining Company until his retirement in 2002. Don and Billie lived “on the hill” up Shane Creek.

As mining was his career, hunting was Don’s passion. Don loved the outdoors, was an avid hunter and fisherman and never passed up the chance to beat you at a game of pool. He ended his pool shooting career as the 2019 Stewart Family Christmas Tournament Champion. Throughout Don’s life he had many adventures and, boy did he have some stories to tell.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Patricia, Karen, Linda, and Nancy; brothers: Bill and Mike; and daughter Tracy Stevens.

Don is survived by his wife of 50 years, Billie; his brother Harold (Bink) Stewart of Columbus, MT; his son Don (Bridget) Stewart of Columbus, MT; daughter Bronda Baldwin of Spokane, WA; son Ron (Dawn) Stewart of Mullan, ID; daughter Colleen (Brent) Ryker of Columbus, MT; daughter Dody (Scott) Johnson of Coeur d’Alene, ID; Mike (Brenda) Peterson of Pinehurst, ID; Lisa (Chip) Kem of Columbus, MT; Teresa (Greg) Peterson of Elk Creek, ID; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 12-8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 14, 2020 at the Smith Columbus Chapel, 35 Diamond Street, in Columbus.

Graveside Services will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. at the Shoshone Memorial Gardens of Pinehurst with Pastor Corey Berti officiating; everyone is welcome- masks and social distancing are encouraged.  A Celebration of Don’s Life for family and friends will be held at the West Shoshone Park of Pinehurst following graveside services.

Memorials in Don’s name can be made to an animal shelter of your choosing or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
